Peartree's Progress on Science Based Targets

Peartree's Progress on Science-Based Targets: Driving Real Change for a Greener Future

At Peartree, our commitment to environmental sustainability goes beyond pledges—it’s about action. In 2024, we embarked on our journey towards Science-Based Targets (SBT), aligning our operations with global climate goals. As we continue down this path, we’re proud to share how our initiatives have evolved, backed by measurable results and a deeper integration of sustainability into every facet of our business.

Turning Commitment into Action

Science-Based Targets are not just aspirational; they are a necessity for businesses looking to make a real impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Since adopting SBT, Peartree has made substantial strides in lowering our carbon footprint. With the exception of two vehicles in Scotland, where the infrastructure for electric vehicles is not yet fully developed, our fleet is now fully electric. This transition has already led to a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions related to our vehicle fleet, demonstrating our dedication to a greener future.

In addition, our Peartree 360 quality management system tracks and reports on a range of sustainability metrics, ensuring transparency and accountability. Each month, our clients receive detailed insights into their carbon emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3), plastic reduction efforts, and wage compliance for staff at their locations. For instance, we report on how many single-use plastic bottles have been saved, the wages our staff earn compared to the National and Real Living Wage, and the number of trees planted based on paper consumption.

This system not only highlights our commitment to sustainability but also helps our clients track their own environmental impact, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in reducing carbon footprints.

Sustainability Embedded in Operations

From procurement to operations, Peartree prioritises sustainability at every level. We work exclusively with suppliers who manage their environmental impact responsibly, ensuring compliance with regulations, the use of renewable energy, and minimisation of waste. For example, our shift to 100% recycled refuse sacks and the adoption of SoluDose™ cleaning sachets have significantly reduced waste while maintaining our high standards.

Moreover, our sustainability efforts extend to our cleaning operatives, who are trained in eco-friendly techniques. This culture of sustainability is woven into the fabric of Peartree, ensuring that our environmental objectives are met through the actions of every team member.

Partnering with Clients for a Sustainable Future

As an industry leader, we recognise that our clients also share a commitment to sustainability. Accredited with EcoVadis Silver, the Planet Mark, and ISO 14001, Peartree goes beyond compliance by providing clients with comprehensive data to track and report their own ESG metrics. Our advanced environmental management practices enable our clients to address their Scope 3 emissions with confidence, reinforcing the collaborative nature of sustainable business practices.

Recognised on the Global Stage

We’re also proud to announce that Peartree is now listed on the official Science-Based Targets website as a company taking meaningful action to combat climate change. This recognition underscores our dedication to reducing emissions in line with the latest climate science. You can view our profile among other like-minded organisations here.

Through our actions, we are not only reducing our environmental impact but also helping to shape a future where businesses can thrive while taking responsibility for the planet.
