Review of the Year
Hello, It's been another busy year for everyone at Peartree! On the 12th August 2016, we celebrated our 30th Anniversary, which is a significant moment in any privately-owned company. Although, I am getting a little ahead of the myself in terms of our calendar year. In fact, if you were to ask Mike Rowley, our Operations Director “what was the most significant date in our Peartree year?”, he would say the 4th January 2016. As that was the day we mobilised the cleaning services for 16 new client locations.
The transition of the new client services also dominated our workload in February and March. The new clients were Misys, Penguin, IFDS and MRM Meteorite. Harry Hans joined us in March, working in the London Operations team, to manage some of the new client locations.
In April, we appointed two more new managers to the Operations team: David and Walter Cevallos (not related) were brought in to strengthen the London team. We had decided in March to reduce the Manager portfolios to ensure that all the managers had more than enough time to support our client’s and the cleaning teams. We also promoted Ney Guzman and Miguel Silva to a newly created tier of Senior Operational Management. Ney was selected to mentor David and Miguel to mentor Walter. Eliana Castano also joined us to manage the Facebook account which had trebled in size and required a site-based Account Manager. Gaynor Jones took up the vacant role at Selfridges Bullring; her tenacious attitude and sunny disposition has lifted the team and the service at this flagship store.
Nareena Smith returned from maternity leave and took on a new role managing the Customer Care Centre. With Nareena back in the business we can proactively contact all our clients on a regular basis and discuss the service. We were also delighted that Luis Archer returned to Peartree in the Payroll department.
The growth in the turnover also resulted in two new appointments at our Brentwood office with Colette Millett and Charlotte Kidd joining us in the Finance department.
May, saw another significant appointment to the Peartree Senior Team, when Alex Girvan MBE took charge of our frontline QHSE. Alex’s involvement is already having a very positive impact, ensuring that the Health & Safety of our employees and client staff is paramount within our service.
In August, the sales team made some great contract wins at Gamesys, Clear Channel and Synthomer. Again, we needed to increase the Operations team with the appointment of William Suarez and Jeanette Martin. William’s appointment was necessary when, Darren Newsam opted for a change in roles, moving from Operations into Sales.
And yet another key Appointment was made in September. David Ford joined the Board as our first Non-Executive Director. David has a stellar CV managing UK businesses such as Sodexo, Regus and GBM services. He is leading our Customer Service Excellence programme: where we will deliver the best customer service in our industry.
October, saw the launch of our new Recruitment and Employment platform. We commissioned Pingala Media to create an on-line platform to take candidates through the entire employment process. With this evolutionary portal, combined with our TRUST ID vetting and on-line Induction training, new employees can be recruited, vetted, and employed in a fluid and transparent process. It also removes all reliance on paper.
From evolutionary to revolutionary; as we spent November and December working with Pingala to create an intuitive client portal. We won’t give away too many secrets about this project now, however, what I can say; is that it will go live in May next year and will set us apart from every other soft service provider from the independent companies to the global TFM organisations.
In December; The new contract awards continued with KKR and CMG UK awarding us, contracts for their cleaning provision. Nicola Barton joined our Payroll team and Dawn Tumbling is also working for us at Brentwood.
Our turnover (as you will guess from the large number of appointments) has increased again from £13.8m in our 2015 accounts to £15.9m in our 2016 accounts. We will close the year closer to £17m.
30 years of consistent annual growth (averaging around 13% net) and 30 years of trading in the black, takes a huge amount of commitment and time from everyone at Peartree. Late nights, early mornings and working weekends is becoming the norm and so, as well as taking this opportunity to thank all our staff, I want to also thank their families too; for their understanding and support.
Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year!
